Free Trade Zones and General Services Employees' Union provided vouchers for books, bags, shoes and uniforms to children of Ja-Ela Esquel employees because the company failed to pay the festival advance which they were used to paying in December every year.
Accordingly, a situation had arisen where they could not afford to buy school equipment to continue their children's education.
Recognizing the need for workers, the trade union sought the support of international trade unions and organizations, and the Clean Clothes Campaign launched a fundraising campaign for those who wished to donate.
Accordingly, the assistance received and the funds collected from the contribution of other trade union branches of the union and the funds received by the Free Trade Zones and General Services Employees' Union and made arrangements to distribute vouchers. The distribution of vouchers for the school equipment of the children and for their siblings’ children (for workers who were unmarried).
This was held in January 2021 at the Villa Senasuma Auditorium in Ekala. The workers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the international community, sister trade union branches and the Free Trade Zones and General Services Employees Union for their support during this difficult time.
